Hewan = Eve in Amharic (Ethiopian dialect)
Hewan was born in the bay area to 1st generation Ethiopian-Americans who had moved to the US for college.
Teacher Miss Cecilia first noticed Hewan’s voice at “Little Mud Puddles” pre-school (props to Miss Cecilia)
Hewan’s desire to write songs arose after seeing India Arie for the first time on 106&Park
Her expressive journey began with poetry. In fact, her poem “Gossip Folk” was published when she was in high school.
Biology class was a great place to develop songwriting skills.
Hewan bought her first guitar in college and began writing songs on one string
Favorite food: Pepperoni Pizza (MUST be accompanied by Mexican Coca-Cola)

Why the haircut: Before moving to LA, Hewan needed a fashionable, low-maintenance hairstyle to match her new budget.
